Rolling out Change

January 6, 2015

angeltrumpets2Rolling Out Change

In contemplating the roll out of a change in the organizational structure of a country there are some very simple, albeit challenging, processes involved. Traditionally movements stem from an individual or small collective of dedicated individuals. Today, many are capable and willing to initiate change themselves. Across the country, small groups of people are gathering to share their skillsets as they collaborate toward building better communities and eventually a nation, perhaps even a world.

As a strategist with a background in project and organizational management, I’ve had a passion and penchant for putting people, places and things together to do some pretty cool stuff. I’ve had some success in a variety of industries: aerospace; building, road and bridge construction; education; entertainment; special events and more. I’ve found happy people with the right tools and training get more done with less supervision.

I’m going to dive in to talking about the nuts and bolts of progressive change management. From an organizational standpoint, it takes clusters or groups of dedicated individuals strewn across the country with a focus on collaborative processes and results. Those clusters or nodes are connected through a network, whether intranet or internet, and able to access profiles, portfolios and projects that combine co-working, complementary skillsets and even incubator-type environments. I created a co-working and incubator space rationale with statistics for a municipality and you can find it here.

As diverse as the playing field may be, like the 12-sector co-creation wheel used by the Humanity’s Team and Thrive organizations, the capacity for organizing local groups rests in the self-initiated, those who are driven to find, facilitate and support practical mysticism in their local communities. I say ‘practical mysticism’ because the process embraces awareness, conscious behaviors within community action. The experience is sometimes akin to the ‘Law of Attraction’ on steroids as people, places and things seem to magically appear to those who are actively and selflessly serving the cause.

To date there have been numerous online and on-ground communities that have been attempting to gather like-minded folks together, but the obvious self-centered activity seems to be driving the bus. The notion of leadership seems to be stuck in last century ideas of competition, control and submission. Heretics are still not tolerated when the status quo needs the bar raised or their heart-drives upgraded. Every question needs to be better than the last and they all have answers that guide progress, some of them ripping apart the operating system in place.

I coined a term over a decade ago that seemed perfect in relationship to describing the ultimate structure of project management: jobarchy – the job is the boss and everyone wins. Personal andchange management hidden agendas have no place in the process and impede progress. There is no Ego without WEgo in such instances as the progress occurs at the speed of surrender to it. The synergy of best practices across multiple platforms is facilitated by leaders who practice this understanding, ultimately being able to combine authority and conviction that guides by example.

Result in Action

What we are ultimately seeking to do is facilitate a change in the power structure of our country, putting the people back in the picture instead of the corporatocracy and profit-driven agendas. How we do that is up to each one of us and our willingness to step up to the challenge. Fearlessness in the face of challenge is a key factor; not that we ignore the potential risks, but we develop plans and strategies that eliminate the potential risk by making them so profoundly logical that the sense made common naturally removes all concerns. That takes a lot of preparation, applying knowledge and understanding of the hard and soft skills of organizational management.

On a practical political no-nonsense level, the results are driven by developing support for those who (by their demonstration) have proven moral and ethical behavior beyond question in their communities. These proven vetted leaders, provided they are willing, are perfect to place in political positions in order to guide their communities and engage their constituents in making better decisions. Cash is no longer king… data is divine. Research and technology are key components of creating consistent and clear communication that can be shared across intelligence levels… making sense even more common.

Now we’re faced with creating the impetus for people to get involved; get out of their homes and join in the process. Festivals have long been a community favorite and draw folks out for the opportunity for fun and enjoyment of a variety of activities, education and entertainment… edutainment if you will. Festivals of all kinds have been a part of our lives for as long as I can remember. Well-crafted and strategically planned events can and do provide opportunities for the collection of data and interested individuals for further engagement.

Whether or not the strategy for change is implemented on a large scale remains to be seen. For now, just the explanation of it seeds the thoughtmosphere for those who might feel attracted to such a purpose. I’m well aware that some concepts and possibilities are ahead of their time, yet over time they find their way into the world and become amazingly effective. Perhaps this can be so for our country and world eventually. Sense made common includes the move toward harmony among people and planet.

Thanks for letting me into your hearts and minds for the moment.

A New World Order?

September 11, 2012

We face a time where many things are changing, including our world. We need to move forward, but how? Are our values, morals and ethics enough? Reports from the other side* seem to reveal a paradox in that we carry our own judgments, otherwise they do not exist. Our thoughts and actions determine our reality, in other words, as one might extrapolate. Imagine that there is no ultimate Judge, only our own record of behavior weighed with the internal gauge of love and our own perception. The spiritual sagas relate stories of the Light and the Void, yet we often miss they are one within us – our internal scale.

What if the sensations are the same in the Void as in the Light? What if there is a sense of total individuality and total inclusion in the Oneness, the yin/yang of the life cycle in consciousness? Could this be what the ‘end of time’ is? Are we moving toward a unified field theory that plays out as movement toward pragmatic ends? Is it possible these polarities within us are learning to play instead of fight? How can we help?

The only judgments made in the realms of consciousness are our own. Near-Death experiencers validate that point ubiquitously. What a paradox in the face of the fear, guilt and shame game! What if we were able to carry that feeling of connectedness (reported by NDE and Spiritually Transformative Experiencers) with us, knowing it is what we will find at our next transition anyway? Seems we got that advice a couple thousand years ago and very few listened then. We’re seeing scientific leanings toward the same in quantum realms.

Is this our challenge: to move from duality to Oneness in our own consciousness? What a challenge for humans! Our minds are binary processors, so that can be a real challenge. Are we more than just humans? Are we alien to our own design? Or do we just not understand what being human really means? We certainly sense the deep connection with loved ones and in compassionate activities. Is this natural? Are we truly spiritual beings having a human experience?

Does a child not grow up to become an adult with the capacity to become a parent? What is a self-actualized human being? Could we be confusing crawl-ins, stand-ins and walk-ins because we have no frame of reference and still cannot claim our own growth toward magnificence? We are taught to cower (respect) in the presence of authority and not question directly. Do we not question the significance of reality on a regular basis?

The natural resonance of what we have categorized as the various forms of love is obvious evidence that we have a deep-seated knowing that produces sensations when we violate our own values in living. Science explains it as harmonic or discordant frequencies, depending on the observable result. Observation is across a sensory array throughout our mind and body, like a transceiver, that we can only ‘read’ when we are quiet, silent and intentionally available.

Our ethics demonstrate how we weigh our knowing of this love with the maligned perception of fear, guilt or shame promoted by those who wish dominance because the grip of their own fear is so unshakeable. The latter is an example of discordant frequencies, they just don’t feel good at all. True happiness is unavailable in that state of being. We can see the falseness of safety and security in money and power.

A self-actualized human being, in my opinion, would have achieved awareness through primary personal portals into the fabric of consciousness, at least becoming proficient in creating constructive scenarios with people, places and things. In other words, going through the trials and tribulations to learn trust in yourself. One who achieves a connected state is able to excel in creating good will and execution of strategic plans to actualize personal or professional goals. They work and play well with others and even lead by example in their community.

Even those connected individuals realize that the challenge to remain connected is an ever-present moment. It’s a constant choice to stay in the precious present. Now what about those who have extraordinary connectivity to things beyond the normal scope of human experience? In other words, what about those who are open to the thoughts and feelings of others? Empathy is their gift, yet it can often extend into the collective consciousness, the ‘thoughtmosphere’ of the planet. How do they relate to a new living awareness? Apparently sensitivities are on the rise due to our planet’s increased vibratory rate as a bi-product of our movement through space. Imagine being plugged in to the cosmic computer with terabytes processing through you in each heart beart.

According to some sources, cosmic volunteers that become self-actualized human beings master experiential knowing and translate their wisdom into ‘righteous’ acts, promoting the good of the order and all. They are able to engage phenomena beyond our imagination and yet because of universal edicts, their lives are often hidden from public view. What if some of these paranormal possibilities began leaking through to the general public?

Humans tend to want spectacular sideshows anyway, and often get caught up in the phenomena to the point of missing the message. We might even begin to see a synergism of previously fragmented bits of knowledge that congeal into malleable frameworks of great import if we pay attention closely. A natural order exists, understood by mathematicians and scientists, that is being presented as a question of balance with inner and outer realities.

Across the Web and in our communities there are so many versions of how this group or that group is vying for position to lead the way to the New World Order, some as cabals and pundits and others as world servers and stewards. A point of perspection dances in the balance of the seer’s vision. What lens are we looking through? Can we have a broader view? Do we really need a view? Can we just choose to get along and move forward like we mean it? Harmony among people and planet would be a new world order.

Just the mention of the phrase ‘New World Order’ carries so many different ‘charges’ of emotional bindings that it is hard to find the ‘truth’ to it all. What were your thoughts when you read the phrase this time? Do you see how sensitized we can become from marginalized information and the projections of others? Still, change happens when polarities come out to play and the situation becomes uncomfortable to an extreme.

So I’ll leave you with this question: What would a new world order of harmony among people and planet look like, smell like, taste like, feel like, sound like and BE like?

Planetary Citizens

April 21, 2012

Image“Our mission must be to create a global community of shared responsibilities, shared benefits, and shared values. The new focus will require all of us to think about the how, and to find new ways to take action to solve the global issues that none of us can tackle alone.”  Foreward: how– Why HOW We Do Anything Means Everything. That title speaks to this moment and ourlives.

PlanetaryCitizens.net’s mission is to create and nurture positive change in the world. We hope to give you pertinent information and relevant facts in the process. Donald Keys, speech writer for U Thant in the 60s, coined the phrase Planetary Citizen on the way to creating The New World Alliance. The Occupy Movement is a global announcement of dissatisfaction in leadership and a call for change. Our plan is to showcase people, places and things that are contributing to the process of establishing a new world order of harmony among people and planet. We understand the term ‘new world order‘ has mixed emotional perspectives. Our world needs a new order.

A ‘new world order’ does not mean the continuation of the current status quo and control of the world economy by the corporatocracy, although one necessarily leads to the other over time. A true ‘new world order’ is emerging as humanity peers into the depths of what keeps us afraid, angry, ignorant and immobile and transcends all such notions. The late Khigh Dhiegh offers his version of the Planetary Citizen pledge in encouragement to us all. The Shift Movement’s Wheel of Co-Creation is just one example of engaging systemic change in a holistic fashion.

OurPlaneteryCitizens.net executive summary invites participation with phenomenal results upon execution. It is a brilliant and timely solution to self-organization throughshowcasing people, places and things aligned with the new global ethic of planetary citizenship. Our model is an example of the shift from Ego to WEgo, an evo-leap in behavior empowered by the challenge to change from selfishness to selflessness. We intend to align with the newly released ISO 26000 Social Responsibility Standards and encourage their wide-spread use in 21st Century business practices. Harmony among people and planet is the successful negotiation and transcendence of the chaos we’re experiencing into a new world order of accountability and responsibility toward human and planetary needs for sustainability.

We cite evidence of the need and solutions available from world servers throughout academia, economic restructuring, organizational development, new social architecture, scientific discovery, and technological advances that appear to be pointing toward an emerging order from the chaos of our ignorance. We consider that humanity has reached this state of affairs through the best efforts of those whom have led our development. We honor those who came before us, but we have reached a time for new focus and work ethics that match our desire for change.

There has been a lack of consideration of the long-term effects of poor resource management and lack of sustainability. We have not learned the laws of nature. Change is inevitable; we can engage it through a collaborative response.how – Why HOW We Do Anything Means Everything is an excellent book everyone should read. We produced a promo for a television show decades ago that has a similar message. Who?, unfortunately, didn’t get much traction back then.

We have a challenge to change – a shift from prior behaviors. Our existing systems need a reboot, a refreshing of focus toward life-friendly notions that move us beyond liabilities, limitations andexcuses. The Valley of the Sun Chapter of the American Society for Training and Development presented their annual conference in 2010 with the theme: “The Shift: Challenge to Change – removing liabilities, limitation and excuses in the workplace.” If the training and development world are sharing the message, our world is about to change dramatically from the subtle shifts in behavior. A new attitude emerges.

Where are we headed?

Our goal is to create an environment here that empowers each visitor to engage their passion for local and global action and/or service in the 21st century. At first glance we may appear like just another voice singing to the choir. Eventually you will see we are a demonstration of collaborative action, based on the accepted standards of humanitarian service organizations and the notion of making sense common. Instead of fighting for attention, we deliver it.

We’re garnering attention and focus on systemic shifts that support a holistic global world view, empowering the diversity toward unity of purpose – a better world for us all. We are developing a comprehensive internal solution using an ISO 26000-based questionnaire and protocols for social responsibility. Application of this tool empowers the systemic shift, mitigating resistance to change and buy-in from leadership and throughout an organization.

Many people are at work in this great effort; from the trenches to the mountaintops wisdom is being shared on- and off-line. Concerted effort and arduous collaboration has been done to create the documents below, so we begin there. What evolves is our actions in alignment with these global efforts. Would you like to be involved in this production?/a>

As we progress and our reach increases through the personal, professional and social networks available our efforts will culminate in the building of a model village that synergizes sustainable development principles with a new understanding of social architecture that empowers excellence in all we do. Like Einstein revealed, we cannot fix a system with the tools that created it. Facebook, LinkedIn, ecademy and others provide opportunity and are underutilized for promoting business and social change.

What are we using?

World standards are evolving. Community humanitarian action fueled by economic, educational, social and technological needs can be more effectively engaged by planetary citizens; Cultural Creatives turned tenacious tradespersons. We suggest an initial document the serves to provide a consistent intentional level of compliance and/or service. This document, the ISO 26000 Social Responsibility Standards, was initiated by representatives from over 90 countries. It serves as a working document for encouraging intentional action of companies and corporations toward socially responsible action. Communication of intention is a great place to start and you can get your Draft Copy here.

The UN Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples is also a primary document that provides a code of ethics for general behavior. Humankind is diverse across many perspectives, yet we consider all to be planetary citizens and as such would benefit greatly from the wisdom of this declaration. We can see that maligned resources, poor fiscal management and repressed populations have created near chaos in the world. We support making sense in the promotion of responsible activity throughout all existing systems, creating a new world order of harmony among people and planet. Our internet brothers and sisters, friends and relatives help create a thoughtmosphere of good will.

What is in it for you?

As we grow into the mission and vision of Planetary Citizens, you will have access to a wealth of information; people, places and things that support harmony among people and planet. If you are adept at searching the Web you can find resources on your own, but we’ve made it easier to garner more with less time spent. You will gain access to resources that embrace a new millennium mindset and remain practical and pragmatic in the bridging of cultures, religions, political notions and world service. In short, you can find something of relevance for just about any topic regarding planetary citizens…. YOU.

What have we got to lose?

May 7, 2010

I may be completely off track here, but there seems to be a reticence toward openness and vulnerability across the dynamics of human relationships. The concerns for acceptance, safety and security appear to be at the root of this resistance. I’m sometimes the fly in the ointment because I raise questions.

I don’t think I’m alone in this regard as I’ve had many private discussions that support this observation. How do we move beyond the boundaries of self-inflicted separation when we profess to believe that a holistic perspective is imperative in the world today?

From corporate conundrums in workplace learning and performance to political postulates for serving the needs of society to religious rhetoric meant to free our souls’ purpose to manifest in our daily lives… its a full stop when simple and obvious questions arise. The truth seems to be always less than full disclosure. How do we first find and then share truth without spending decades or millennia arguing about it? Can we just acknowledge ‘what is’?

We, as a world, are faced with some very important choices as we seek to transform our past profit-driven and less than human friendly decisions into creating a world that makes sense. Life-friendly choices are muddled by cash flow projections, personal liabilities, professional limitations and excuses for not acting in accordance with what we profess to believe – our ability to act in love.

Too often that love is conditional, with expectations that are neither spoken of fulfilled because of our inability to articulate the wisdom we hold as spiritual beings in human form. There isn’t one religion that denies that we are indeed manifestations of some greater intelligence. So where is that intelligence showing up now?

Across the gamut of world government and resource management (human and material) we are experiencing a call for transformation toward something more harmonious, a movement toward telling the truth and working with ‘what is’ rather than hidden agendas and excuses for irresponsible actions.

What I find confusing is the apparent indignation of ‘authorities’ who we’ve looked to for leadership. Instead of revealing a reality that we can all agree is true, there are countless backroom meetings to figure out how to subvert the population into a manageable mass that remains uninformed and even unconscious to their own capability and potential as human beings. This behavior completely denies the human spirit and the possibility of acknowledging that we are spiritual beings at all.

So how do we transform our world even when our leadership is resistant to the changes that are obviously needed to guide our planetary civilization forward?

I don’t have all the answers. I may not have any of them. But, I suspect that many across the world are getting fed up with being diagnosed, labeled and accused of being unrealistic. I perceive that the multitudes of finger-pointers and whistle blowers are affecting the population, but not necessarily in the best way possible. Exposing the truth often causes a rise in anger and frustration that, unchecked, can lead to even more catastrophic behavior.

Do we look to the skies for help? Do we look deep within for help? Do we propose new possibilities for using our skill sets for the betterment of mankind? Are our [spiritual beings having human experiences] actions congruent with what are perceived to be mission-driven [harmony among people and planet] objectives? Can we pause in process to question and reflect on our personal and professional endeavors to see if they match up?

For some, and with growing numbers, all of the previous questions are being considered with greater tenacity. Apparently even the cosmological experts and researchers are chiming in with a recognition that it is part of the process humanity finds itself in currently. The questions still remain: Can we learn to be in the precious present without past constraints or future concerns eliminating possibilities in the present? Can we collaborative create life-friendly solutions that will span hunger, poverty and war? And lastly, How can we work together as one?

What have we got to lose?

The Process of Critical Reflection

April 11, 2010

The process of critical reflection of assumptions empowers one and many to view influencing details that determines the ability to find consensus and harmony in any situation. Harmony does not mean the absence of conflict, merely the creative use of it to resolve issues that inhibit cooperative and collaborative relationships in professional and personal environments.

The article presents perspectives of human patterns and the avenues available to establish collective understandings of beliefs, intentions, values and feelings to facilitate a ‘common’ reality that is workable for everyone. Critical reflection of assumptions is used to enter into a discourse to assess alternative beliefs, predicated on universal principles. CRA is used in Transformational Theory, Assimilative Learning, Objective Reframing, and Subjective Reframing for adult learning.

Transformational Theory

Transformational Theory (Mezirow, 1991,1995, 1996), which uses reflection, maintains human learning is promoted in communication through assessing intentions, values, moral issues, and feelings which requiring the use of critical reflection of assumptions. Transformational Theory holds that CRA is not a panacea or provides some transcendent experience to resolve conflict. Rather, it presents the process as a ‘best practice’ compared to other options that have been used in the workplace.

Assimilative Learning

Assimilative Learning, as used by psychoanalysts, pertains to adjustment or accommodation to a difficult situation by accepting it as conforming to one’s desire. This process moves one to act according to regulative principles, a way of thinking or behaving deemed more functional or acceptable. This seems to characterize the way adults learn to adapt to change, using tacit judgment to move forward to constructive results.

Objective Reframing

Objective Reframing examines established definitions, theories, and practices to better understand the paradigms influencing decision-making. Using critical reflection of a premise and defining a problem can lead to transformative redefinition and ‘problem posing.’ The objective of this process, in the all its facets, is to improve performance.

Subjective Reframing

Subjective Reframing examines psychological or cultural assumptions to reveal conceptual and psychological limitations.

In all of the above situations, critical reflection of assumptions is used in discursive groups to assess and manage flow of communication relative to outcomes desired within those same discursive groups that are commonly found within the workplace environment. The task for a manager is to creatively translate the use of critical reflection of assumptions and discourse to effectively facilitate conflict resolution in the workplace.

Questions:

What are the tools available for creating an atmosphere where critical reflection of assumptions can be used effectively? How can one facilitate the use of such tools in environments where human communications are predicated on form, fit and function of critical path assessments?

Potential Answers:

Human resource development programs using a combination of psychoanalytic assessment tools and facilitation training for employees are one possibility. Cultural diversity and sensitivity training for managers is another, as they can then affect communication in their respective departments. Team building or collaborative alliance training outside of the company’s environment is yet another possibility that offers professional development through reliance on others as well as self.

Critical path assessment, defining the basic fundamentals of production, can be introduced through various scenarios involving critical reflection of assumptions. One such opportunity would involve discovering the logic path used to streamline production processes, eliminating wasted resources and labor costs as a functional goal. Another would use interpersonal skills development to better affect communicating goals and objectives to a diverse population within the workforce.

Personal ethics statement:  I will to do good for all, desiring to serve humanity in the highest and best use of my mind/body/spirit complex, in the facilitation of a new world order of harmony among people and planet through the development of a state-of-the-art model community and website that promotes this endeavor.
